Fontaine was driving southbound on Kernan Boulevard in July 2013 when he sped past the stop sign at the eastbound exit ramp for J. Turner Butler Boulevard, authorities said.

Fontaine's vehicle struck the driver's side of a vehicle proceeding through the intersection that was occupied by husband and wife Reynaldo and Leonora Sanalila. State attorneys said the impact caused the driver serious bodily injury and killed Leonora Sanalila, who was in the front passenger seat.

A blood draw was taken from Fontaine and analyzed for toxicology. State attorneys said that testing revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.20 percent, which is 2 ½ times the legal limit.

Fontaine pleaded guilty to the charges in September, authorities said.
