PALATKA, Fla. – A 26-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in federal prison for possessing the drug Molly with intent to distribute it and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Darrell Maxwell pleaded guilty to the charges on Dec. 14.
Court documents state that Maxwell arrived to a Palatka gas station on June 10 with the plan to sell Molly.
The Tri-County Drug Task Force said they were aware Maxwell was in possession of the drug and arrested him. During the arrest Maxwell was found with a loaded .40-caliber pistol.
The case was prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice's "Project Safe Neighborhoods" program, a nationwide gun-violence reduction strategy.
