Man sentenced to 65 years for attempted murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Lemar Whitfield, 22, was sentenced to a total of 65 years in prison, with a 55-year minimum mandatory for one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery.

In July 2014, officers found the victim lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation revealed that Whitfield and another individual robbed and shot the victim. They then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.

Officers located the stolen vehicle and the gun Whitfield used, which was tossed in the bushes near the car. They also found a camera containing a video of the defendant driving the stolen vehicle with the same gun on his lap.

Whitfield was convicted of the charges in July 2015.
