Prosecutors said Murphy and his brother, Winston Murphy, followed the victim, Timothy Jones, 26, and three others to the Justina Terrace Apartments after an argument occurred between one of the victims and the defendant.

While at the complex, Winston Murphy approached the group from behind, prosecutors said.

Seconds later, shots were exchanged by Winston and another individual, according to the State Attorney's Office.

As the victims attempted to flee, David Murphy approached the group and fired several shots, one of which fatally struck Jones. Murphy and his brother then fled the scene.

Winston Murphy was convicted in 2012 and sentenced to 50 years in prison on a charge of second-degree murder.
