Man sentenced to life in 2013 murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Cedric Dondrell Tate, 28, was sentenced Thursday afternoon to mandatory life in prison for the July 2013 murder of Wilfred Johnson. 

According to prosecutors, Tate, shot 40-year-old Johnson in the back of the head, then fled.

Tate was convicted last month of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was ordered to serve 15 years on the gun charge consecutively to the life sentence.

Tate is a convicted felon, with previous felony conviction for domestic battery by strangulation.
