Man sentenced to life in prison for murder conviction

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 28-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to mandatory life in prison for first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A jury convicted Brandon Lovice Acker on those charges last month.

In July 2010, Acker and a co-defendant confronted two victimes, 27-year-old Stacy Bell and 25-year-old George Ware, outside a Friden Drive residence. During the altercation, which stemmed from an ongoing dispute over drugs, Acker pulled out his gun and shot multiple times at both of the victims.

Ware was hit and later recovered from his injuries. Bell died at the scene.
