JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole for sexually abusing a child.
John Fitzgerald Hagans, 48, was convicted in August on one count of sexual battery.

According to reports, police were notified by a witness in 2012 of the sexual activity involving a young child.
Dalina Nicholas, the victim's guardian, was reported to be so addicted to cocaine that she was not supervising the victim properly.
The victim reported that she had been touched inappropriately by Hagans.
Nicholas pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child neglect and is awaiting her sentence now. The state is recommending that Nicholas receive a sentence of no less than 25 years in prison.
