JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A man has life-threatening injuries after police say he was hit by a truck Friday night on St. Augustine Road.

Detective D.B. Edmonds with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office told Channel 4 the 51-year-old man was standing on the corner of a curve on St. Augustine Road just after 7 p.m. Friday night when a truck passed him.

Police said the truck was pulling a utility trailer behind it, traveling southbound on St. Augustine Road.

As the truck passed, police said the man stepped out from the curve into the street, not realizing the trailer was behind the truck.

Edmonds said the man was struck head-on by the trailer.

The man was transported to UF Health in with life-threatening injuries Friday night. His identity has not been released.
