Man shot in attempted robbery in NW Jacksonville
Police searching for suspect who shot man at gas station
Police are searching for a suspect or suspects in a shooting early Thursday morning in Northwest Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide unit was called out to 33rd Street at Moncrief Road after midnight after police received a call about a man shot in the parking lot of the Pipeline gas station.
"A witness drove a black man in his 20s to Shands hospital. He had a gun shot wound to his torso. He was taken in critical condition. They stabilized him, took him to surgery. He is still considered to be in critical, life-threatening condition," said Sgt. Lonnie Mills with JSO's homicide unit.
Police believe the shooting happened during an attempted robbery.
"The information that we're receiving at this time is he was at the location at 33rd and Moncrief... the store. He was approached by someone who attempted to rob him. He was shot a single time and that person fled," said Mills. "At this point we don't have any real suspect information, or really anything more than that to go on. We're still looking for evidence at the crime scene such as shell casings and such."
Police are asking for the public's help in search for a suspect in this case. Anyone with information can contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
