19-year-old man shot in chest in stable condition

No witnesses to shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out what led to a shooting in the Urban Core area Thursday morning.

Around 2 a.m. a 19-year-old man was found on the sidewalk by a relative on North Market Street, off East 11th Street.

"He was unconscious and was the victim of an apparent gunshot wound to the chest," said Lt. Daniel Kenney.

The relative then drove him to UF Health Jacksonville, where he remains in stable condition.

"We have limited information at this time because he was unconscious, the victim, and the relative also had limited information as far as what occurred," said Kenney.

JSO's Violent Crimes Task Force is conducting the investigation.

"We had reports of shots being fired at about 2 o'clock and the relative showed up at the hospital maybe about five or 10 minutes after that," said Kenney.

Kenney said some of the neighbors called 911 with reports of hearing gunshots in the area, but they have not been able to find any witnesses.

"We have really basic information until [the victim] regains consciousness to talk to the detectives," said Kenney.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
