Man shot in Ft. Caroline area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was hospitalized Saturday after being shot in the face in the Fort Caroline area, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

A dispute between two people off of Charmont Drive led to gunfire in the middle of the street, officials said. It’s believed that the two people knew each other.

Officers said they have the suspected shooter in custody, but don’t yet know what happened leading up to the shooting.

Police told News4Jax that a person pulled up to officers working an unrelated nearby call and told them about the shooting.

That person then surrendered to police, who found a gun in their vehicle.

Officers blocked off the road as they conducted their investigation and collected shell casings and other evidence.

“It's dangerous anywhere that something like this happens.” Lt. Steve Mullen said. “There was a large family gathering happening nearby. It doesn't appear to be related to this, but there was multiple people outside.”

Officers said they were walking people to their homes so they can get back there while the investigation was conducted.

Investigators said they believe the shooting was a specific incident and that everyone involved is accounted for.
