"When they got there, they found one victim lying unresponsive on the ground. Fire-Rescue was called and they transported that victim to the hospital," said Sgt. T.K. Waters.

Waters said the victim, identified as Wesley Bridges, died at UF Health Jacksonville.

Waters said Bridges and another man were sitting outside the apartments waiting for a ride when they were approached by three men. According to police, some conversation ensued between the men.

"After the conversation, gunshots rang out. Our victim was shot," said Waters.

Police said they don't have a description of the men or know how many gunshots were fired.

Waters said he didn't know exactly where Bridges was shot because when he got on the scene, Bridges was already transported to the hospital.

Investigators are trying to figure out why Bridges was shot, and said they are unsure if this shooting was related to any other incident.
