Suspect hit power pole during escape; 46 customers without power

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man is in the hospital after he was shot while sitting in his car Thursday morning on the Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Before 3:30 a.m. Thursday, a man was shot while sitting in his car on 11545 Manatee Drive, according to police.

"JSO and JFRD responded to an individual with a gunshot wound off Harts Road. The victim, an adult male, appeared to be shot once in his arm while sitting in his vehicle," said Sgt. Richard Knecht.

After the shooting, the victim drove himself to River Oaks apartments on Harts Road, just north of Dunn Avenue, and police were notified.

The victim was transported to UF Health Jacksonville by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department in non life-threatening condition.

The suspect hit a power pole on Manatee Drive, near Blue Gill road while fleeing the scene.

According to JEA, 46 customers are without power.

JEA crews are expected to have the power pole fixed, and restore power a little after 8 a.m. Thursday.

Police said they don't know what the motive of the shooting was, but have an idea who the suspect might be.

"The suspect is known to the victim but hasn't been located at this time," said Knecht. "The Violent Crimes Task Force is on scene conducting an investigation."

Knecht said witnesses to the shooting are being interviewed by police.

JSO has not released a suspect or vehicle description at this time, but said the victim is cooperating with investigators.
