JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Early morning Monday morning, a man was hospitalized after being hit by a car, then stabbed in the neck by a man in a dispute of a woman, according to the Fernandina Beach Police Department.
Police said the dispute began at a the Hammerhead Bar on South Fletcher Avenue when Jason Powell confronted William Sherwood over having a relationship with his Powell's ex-wife.

Officers were told dispute centered on Sherwood being involved in a relationship with Powell's ex-wife. Bar employees asked both subjects to leave the premises, and they did. Police said Sherwood then left threatening messages on Powell's cell phone. In one message, Sherwood told Powell that if he came to the Day's Inn Hotel, where he was staying, that Sherwood would "take care of him."
Police said Powell went to the Sadler Road hotel and drove towards a group of people including Sherwood. Powell's mirror was hit or struck someone, making him believe Sherwood had punched his mirror. Officers said this angered Powell, and he black up, striking Sherwood, knocking him to the ground. Powell got out and stabbed Sherwood in the throat, got back in his vehicle and drove away.
Sherwood was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he is in critical condition.
Powell, 34, drove to the Fernandina Beach Police Department and turned himself in. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.
