Deputies: Son helping mom stabbed man to death
Mother, 2nd man arrested
One man was stabbed to death and two others were arrested early Thursday morning in Columbia County, according to deputies.
Deputies were called to a fight at 767 N.W. Amanda St. just after midnight and found Deeante Gibson lying on the ground unresponsive with several stab wounds to the upper torso.
Gibson was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Deputies said there had been a birthday party earlier in the evening at the mobile home, and several people remained into the late night hours of Wednesday.
At about midnight, a verbal altercation took place between Julie Jones and Sidney Gibson, deputies said. As Jones and her son Travon were returning to their home in the park, they were followed by Sidney and Deeante
Gibson, deputies said.
While returning to their home, the verbal altercation continued and Sidney punched Jones in the face, deputies said. They said Travon tried to help his mother but was attacked by Deeante and knocked to the ground.
During the physical altercation, Deeante got on top of Travon and began to strike him, deputies said. At that time, Travon retrieved a pocket knife from his pants pocket and stabbed Deeante several times in the upper torso area, deputies said.
Shortly thereafter, Julie and Travon retreated into their home, deputies said.
Sidney Gibson, 21, was arrested on a charge of felony battery. Julie Jones, 42, was arrested on a charge of tampering with evidence and resisting arrest.
The case is being reviewed by the state attorney's office for additional charges.
