Man struck crossing Beach Bldv. critically injured

Pedestrian taken to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man is fighting for his life after he was struck by a vehicle while he was crossing Beach Boulevard on Saturday night.

The accident happened at the intersection of Beach and Newell boulevards, just west of the intersection with Southside Boulevard.

According to a report from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Jennifer Stephenson, 63, was driving a silver Dodge Caravan west on Beach Boulevard and Mark Phillips (age not listed) was crossing the street. Phillips was struck and Stephenson stopped a short distance later, investigators said.

Phillips was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said Stephenson cooperated with detectives, and alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors.
