Man taken to hospital, dog revived in Southside home fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man has been taken to the hospital as a precaution after his home went up in flames, according to the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department.

Fire crews received calls about the home fire on Kevin Road, near Sunbeam, just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters tell News4JAX that the fire started in the rear of the house, near the bedroom, and damaged roughly 20 percent to 30 percent of the home. At one point, flames were shooting through the roof and threatened to collapse the home.

Crews were able to put out the fire and save the rest of the home. Deputies also pulled two dogs from the burning building, one of which had to be revived.

The homeowner said she is thankful that her husband, who was in the home at the time, is okay and that her two dogs were saved. However, she added she did lose two cats in the fire.

This is the third fire to be called in to JFRD Saturday night.
