Man, woman accused of trafficking cocaine, St. Johns deputies say

Deputies find cocaine with estimated street value of $100,000

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A man and a woman were arrested Monday on a charge of trafficking cocaine after a traffic stop, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

Alejandro Aplesa, 27, and Emma Abarca-Valdovinos, 53, were booked into the county jail pending their first appearances Tuesday morning, deputies said.

A sergeant conducted a traffic stop at 7:20 p.m. Monday on a Toyota passenger car that was speeding at the 301-mile marker on Interstate 95, authorities said.

The investigation revealed that neither Aplesa nor Abarca-Valdovinos had a valid driver's license. The Sheriff's Office said a deputy responded to the scene with her K-9, who alerted on the vehicle.

Deputies found three bricks of what tested positive for cocaine. The Sheriff's Office said the 3.3 kilograms of cocaine has an estimated street value of $100,000.

In addition to the trafficking charge, Aplesa was charged with driving without a license, deputies said.
