The work is part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) State Street, Union Street and Mathews Expressway resurfacing and improvement project.

The $13 million project began in December and includes replacement of the JEA water main on Union Street and State Street. Final resurfacing of these roadways, starting with Union Street, moving east, followed by State Street, moving west, will begin in December, pending completion of utility work and weather permitting. The Mathews Expressway segment will be resurfaced during the final phase of the project. The entire project is scheduled for completion in spring 2017.
