Meals on Wheels, St. Vincent's, taxi drivers team up to deliver Thanksgiving meals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – 500 people were served a Thanksgiving meal Thursday thanks to St. Vincent's Hospital, Meals on Wheels and dozens of taxi cab drivers.

The hospital and organization have been teaming up for Thanksgiving for more than two decades. Local cab drivers drove the meals to the recipients.

"It just means more than I could ever say right now," said Meals on Wheels recipient, Imogene Adams. "I'm speechless because it's so nice of you all to take your time on your holidays and come out here and bring us food."

Adams says she might not have gotten a Thanksgiving meal if it weren't for the volunteers who helped make this happen.

"Oh, it means so much because it's going out shopping and I'm just limited to where I can go and what I can do," Adams said.

Nearly 100 volunteers from St. Vincent's and Meals on Wheels prepared the 500 meal bags Thursday morning, then dozens of taxi drivers from Northern Florida Transportation Group lined King Street to fill their cars with the meals. Each cab driver donated their own time and gas money to make sure the meals were delivered.
