Mega Pet Adoption continues this weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mega Pet Adoption continued this weekend at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds.

By noon Sunday, 707 cats and dogs found new homes.

People were lined up in front of the Jacksonville Fairgrounds long before the doors opened at 10 a.m., trying to get inside and find the perfect pet to add to their families.

Kim Norwood and her son, Dylan, were at the adoption late Friday and they knew they were looking for the perfect dog to take home, but it was too late to adopt him, so they came early Saturday and hoped he was still there.

"It's going to be amazing. My son has been wanting a dog for so long, and I finally just broke down and did it," said Kim Norwood.

From wall-to-wall inside the fairgrounds, dogs and cats were waiting to be adopted. People took the dogs outside to play with them for a little, while to learn the pet's personality.

"It's awesome. I'm picky. There had to be that connection. We made that connection the first time we saw him," said Norwood.

Animal shelters all across town have been overly crowded with pets. Organizers want shelters in Duval County to continue to be no-kill

"These events are the largest in the country. Nobody else does them as big as Jacksonville does. The shelters unfortunately don't usually have people lined up outside to adopt. At this venue, they get a lot of excitement," said Merideth Tekin, with First Coast No More Homeless Pets.
