A police officer is recovering from stab wounds and a suspect is dead following a confrontation near Miami International Airport.
Miami-Dade police responded to a shooting call around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the wounded officer. The dead suspect was nearby. It wasn't clear how the officer was stabbed or what kind of weapon was used.
Police say the 54-year-old officer -- whose name has not been released -- was approached by a suspicious man at a Shell gas station near the airport. A violent confrontation occurred during which the officer was stabbed multiple times before he pulled his gun and fired.
The suspect died at the scene and the officer was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
The suspect's name has not been released. An investigation continues.
