Clay County Fire Rescue was called to the home at 3656 Loango Road around 6 a.m.
The home was fully engulfed when they arrived.

“We heard him yelling, 'Fire!' and then we called the fire department and my step dad ran over and helped pull his wife out, and then by that time the fire department was here,” neighbor Shelby Nolan said. “Everybody's OK there's only a pet love bird missing.”

Nolan said the flames were up in the trees and she was surprised the trees didn't catch fire.

The home was destroyed.

"They are shaken up, of course. It's a very stressful situation. But they are in good health and we've checked them out medically. They did not request transport to the local hospital," said Clay County Fire Battlion Chief Jason Boree.

He said that this is the beginning of the busy season for firefighters and had a reminder for everyone.

"Now that the temperature is going to be changing, we do ask people to be very vigilant in care with their smoke detectors and space heaters," said Boree.

The Red Cross is now helping the couple.
