The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man, woman and four teenagers on Thursday after an ongoing investigation into a string of commercial and residential burglaries in Putnam County.
Officials say the family of burglars could be responsible for more than 50 burglaries in Alachua, Bradford, Clay and Putnam counties.
The Sheriff's Office said it found hundreds of stolen items when at the residence of Michael Lavane, 38 and Casey Gaffney, 33. They, along with 18-year-old Fredrick Martin and three 14-year-olds who Channel 4 is not naming due to their ages were all charged with multiple counts of burglary. The adults were also charged with grand theft and criminal mischief.
Because one of the juveniles is the son of Lavane and Gaffney, they are also being investigated on child abuse charges.
The adults were booked into the Putnam County jail and ordered held on $3,508 bond. The juveniles were turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
"Our detectives have worked closely with law enforcement personnel from the other counties involved in linking these criminals to multiple crimes committed across the region," said Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy. "This investigation is not over. Additional arrests are definitely anticipated."
