A news study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal shows working the night shift has a deteriorating effect on health.
The Daily Mail reports a study by Surrey University reveals night shifts lead to the body going haywire.
Researchers split a group of people into two groups. One groups' sleep schedule was changed to mirror that of a person who works during the night and sleeps during the day. The other had a normal sleep schedule.
Researchers looked at the genes of the two groups and found the genes of those with the odd sleep schedule were disruptive.
The genes were more on sync, meaning either working more or less during the day, for those who slept normal hours.
Researcher Dr. Simon Archer found odd sleeping times led to the majority of genes being out of whack.
Researchers are hoping it leads to revealing more when it comes to suffering from jet lag.
