The players are in a close race at TPC Sawgrass to win one of the largest purses in a golf championship. While they are focused on the $9.5 million up for grabs for the winners, moms are focusing their time and energy on golf and their family.
The final round of golf at TPC Sawgrass in The Players on Mother's day has been a tradition since 2007, mixing the love of the sport of golf, with a mothers unconditional love.
Everywhere you look at TPC Sawgrass, mothers are spending quality time with their families, some of them young, and some of them old, with a love that's timeless.
This is one of the best days of the year to be with my daughter because it's such a great event," said Susie Shannon who attended The Players with her daughter.
”Mothers day is a day on the calendar, and it's good because sometimes I don't get a chance to say I love you as much as I should, it's just wonderful because we both love golf," said Molly Shannon, who is Susie's daughter.
Some mothers say the family friendly environment at TPC Sawgrass is a welcomed escape from cell phones, and other distractions. Today, it's all about golf, and mom's who appreciate watching the professional golfers.
"It's a wonderful atmosphere, and we couldn't ask for any better weather," said Sally Finn.
Sally Finn says watching the Players Championship has become a tradition in her families household, and it still warms her heart to hear what she means to to her son.
“I just like giving back to my mom, she does so much for me and she has over the years. I play soccer and that requires a lot of traveling. I appreciate her driving me places. She spends a lot of time on me," said Jacob Finn.
Even those who don't like golf say they appreciate the oneness of family, and the chance to say thank you.
"It's just family bonding time, we get to see families all together," said Frannie Teitelbaum, who attended The Players with her two young children.
