A motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital in critical condition late Sunday night after a crash involving two other vehicles.
Nelson Smedley, 50, was riding his motorcycle westbound on Beach Blvd. around 9:40 p.m. A car driven by Holden Kortus, 19, was traveling northbound on St. Johns Bluff Rd. Another vehicle driven by Vaunsage Inocente, 20, was traveling southbound on St. Johns Bluff Rd. and was stopped in the left turn lane.
According to preliminary findings, Smedley rode through a red traffic light and entered the intersection. At the same time, Kortus was entering the intersection on a green light. The front of Kortus' car collided with Smedley's motorcycle.
Due to the collision, Smedley's motorcycle fell to its side and slid northbound until it hit Inocente's vehicle.
Smedley was not wearing a helmet, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.
The other drivers and their passengers were not injured.
Beach Blvd. traffic was diverted around the intersection until 1:45 a.m. when the roadway was reopened.
