Narcotics warrant leads to meth lab bust

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office broke up a small methamphetamine lab that they called a "shake and bake," operation on the Southside Wednesday.

According to officials, police were serving a narcotics warrant at a home on the 10000 block of Stone Road when they found meth-making materials in the home.

Police said no one was injured during the raid but they were concerned that the home was only a block away from Wendy Hill Elementary School.

News4Jax spoke to a woman who did not want to be identified, but wanted to be the voice for the owner of the home after he and another person were arrested.

"They came in the house and they had a warrant to search for one thing, and they said that they saw the materials which had nothing to do with the owner and the house, and they looked and didn't really find anything and that was about it," the woman said.

News4Jax also spoke Wednesday night with the daughter of the owner. She was very shaken up and said she ran home as quick as she could to get her 3-year-old daughter when she received a phone call from the detective.

She told News4Jax her father is a good man who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years and said what police found were cleaning materials.

Family members salvaged what they could Wednesday night, since they are not allowed back into the home until an inspector conducts a full analysis of the home.

The family friend said this is all a misunderstanding.

"He's a good guy. He's a good guy," the family friend said. "It's sad the way that everything has turned out. It's at how they try to make one person be a horrible person. Guess he's in the wrong for what he was arrested for, but he was not arrested for anything to do with meth. And there was no mess found in the house to make that clear."

No court dates have been set, but the daughter told News4Jax she is maintaining the innocence of her father.

Officials have not released the names of the people who were arrested at this time.
