No. 9: New Orleans (July 4) New Orleans sure knows how to throw a party and -- aside from Mardi Gras -- there's no Big Easy party quite like Go 4th on the River . The festival's one-of-a-kind fireworks show features dueling barges shooting off fireworks along the New Orleans riverfront in front of 150,000 to 200,000 spectators.

No. 8: Lake Tahoe (July 4) The Lights on the Lake fireworks display above the alpine lake along the California-Nevada border is nothing short of spectacular. Fireworks are shot from a barge on the water and can been from almost anywhere on the lake. You can watch the show from the shore or even venture out onto the water yourself.

No. 7: Atlantic City (July 3-4) The Do Atlantic City Fireworks Spectacular show has two parts, making it one of the longest in the country. The first 15-minute show along the beach and boardwalk on July 3 is followed by another 15-minute display over the city's Marina District on July 4.

No. 6: Chicago (July 4) Besides the spectacular fireworks show at Navy Pier , which can also be seen from Grant Park or aboard a cruise on Lake Michigan, Chicago will also offer an additional Fourth of July treat this year with the Grateful Dead performing their last shows ever at Soldier Field on July 3-5.

No. 5: Nashville (July 4) In 2014, the Let Freedom Sing! celebration boasted a 30-minute show that shot off more than 30,000 shells representing more than 16,000 pounds of fireworks. This year the festival is claiming to be going even bigger to become the biggest Fourth of July display in America. Let Freedom Sing! also features a variety of concerts in Riverfront Park, including a performance by country star Martina McBride this year.

No. 4: New York City (July 4) The annual Macy's Firework Spectacular firework show over the Hudson River regularly attracts around 2 million people. The 26-minute show, which sets off approximately 75,000 pounds of fireworks, provides vantage points scattered all over the West Side and New Jersey. This year the celebration also includes performances from singers like Kelly Clarkson and Flo Rida.
