Pittsburgh, PA - A 38-year-old Pennsylvania woman is accused of selling heroin from her hospital room while she was a patient in an intensive care unit.
Authorities say they seized more than 300 bags of suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia, cash and cell phones from the hospital room at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, not far from Pittsburgh.
The woman was admitted earlier this month for an unrelated medical issue.
Hospital staff became suspicious after noticing how many people came to visit her.
"What they noticed last week was an exorbitant amount of foot traffic happening to a patient's room," hospital spokesperson Jennifer Miele explained.
"Not [visitors] coming to stay two hours, but [visitors] coming to stay two minutes. They thought that was really odd so they contacted security."
Police conducted surveillance of the room, and says they sent in an informant to make a purchase.
Authorities said the woman kept the drugs inside her purse and drawers in the room.
She also allegedly injected heroin into her I-V system while in the hospital.
