Nation's Largest Mall Proposed

Whoever said the era of the enclosed shopping mall was over may need to reevaluate their opinion. Triple Five, the Canadian company that opened the Mall of America in 1992, has announced their intention to build a larger center in Florida.

Triple Five's American Dream Miami will be developed on a 200-acre site in Northwestern Miami-Dade County. Expected to generate 25,000 jobs, the mall will include an artificial ski slope, a lake with submarine rides, a Legoland amusement park, a water park, a sea lion show, indoor gardens and a miniature golf course. Targeted for a parcel at the intersection of the Florida Turnpike and I-75, the mall would compete directly with Aventura Mall and Sawgrass Mills-- which currently rank as the third and seventh largest malls in the nation.

So far, no one in South Florida seems concerned about the impact of an additional suburban megamall on the economic health of Downtown Miami.
