Nease NJROTC wins Mandarin Drill Meet

Local school wins national competition

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – Nease High School's NJROTC varsity drill team took home the championship at the Mandarin HS NJROTC drill meet, beating out 11 other units from across northern Florida and Georgia.

The victory helps the Nease NJROTC team clinch a berth in the Area 12 Drill Championships -March 5 in Georgia.

Several cadets also received individual recognition at the competition. Cadets Marcus Sanders, Scott Cummings and Ryan Berry earned the top honor in academics. Those cadets received the highest three scores. Cadets Jacob Hunt and Patrick Henkel finished first and third in the solo exhibition drill. Cadets Brian Swicegood and Christopher Babcock finished first and third in male push-ups. Nease placed first and third in the female push-up competition. Cadets Krista Ecker and Cali Vaughn received those honors.

The Naval Service Training Command in Pensacola judged the competition.

Jacksonville's Terry Parker High School finished second and South Effingham High School finished third. Coffee County High School and Henry County High Schools placed fourth and fifth respectively.
