JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man is being sought after police say he barricaded himself in his home with a gun when he got into an argument with his father, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The neighborhood was locked down Sunday afternoon as SWAT attempted to negotiate with the suspect, Michael Kenneth Farrell (pictured above), 21.
According to a spokesperson with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the home on Glen Gardner Drive after a man reported that his son armed himself with a gun after the two got into an altercation.
Police say the father left the home and the son was still in the house, armed and barricaded.
When police entered the home around 5:30 p.m., the man was not found inside. Based on calls made to dispatch, police do believe he was there. Officials say they did not locate a firearm when they searched the house.
Police say he is missing and wanted on aggravated assault charges and a domestic battery charge in relation to the incident.
JSO issued a BOLO for Farrell Sunday night.
Neighbors were on edge.
"He could be hiding up under one of these trailers around here for all we know," Arlene Smith said.
Janet Strong said some neighbors began helping one another.
"I did find a way out. I crossed the drainage ditch behind us and borrowed a truck. We went to the store, took some waters for some people and also carried some food across the fence."
Officials say no shots were fired, but the neighborhood was placed on lockdown while police worked with neighbors for their safe evacuation.
JSO said police have been called to the home numerous times before, and the suspect does have a criminal history.
