New sculpture making waves at One Spark

Spark Attack sculpture arrives to float in Hemming Park fountain for festival

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The world's largest crowdfunding festival starts today and before the opening ceremonies for One Spark, a giant shark will splash its way into the fountain at Hemming Park.

For the third year in a row a sculpture class at the University of North Florida created a massive sculpture to float at the park during the festival.

The "Spark Attack" piece, created by students of Dr. Jenny Hager, UNF associate professor of sculpture, left UNF about 9:30 a.m. and made its way to Hemming Plaza for its One Spark unveiling. The sculpture was commissioned by Wayne Wood.

Last year a giant goldfish, nicknamed "Col. Crackers," made its debut. The year before it was a floating duck named "Sgt. Quackers."

News4Jax will have complete coverage of One Spark 2015, including event highlights, past success stories and interviews with two of the festival's co-founders during a 30-minute live special on Channel 4 at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
