No more cupcakes in schools

Anti-obesity campaigns, allergies and money among reasons for ban

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – I'm sure you remember being in school, and when it was someone's birthday in the class, we all got to celebrate, usually with cupcakes. Well, that could be a thing of the past.

More and more school districts all over the country are banning cupcakes.

The reasons? Well among them are Anti-obesity campaigns.

Some classes were getting four to five cupcakes a month, many students had food allergies and not all families can afford to send treats, leading those students without the money to feel slightly left out.

So instead of cupcakes, parents are being encouraged to send in non-food items, like pencils and little trinkets.

A lot of parents are upset by this.

For our Social Media Question of the Day on our Facebook page we are asking you if you think cupcakes should be banned from school?
