No Suspect In Double Shooting

2 Sent To Hospital After Shooting At Oak Hammock Apartments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville police officers are still looking for a suspect in a double shooting that happened in the 500 block of Acme Street about 11 Sunday morning.

In broad daylight, just across the street from a playground where children ride scooters and bikes, Jacksonville police say gunfire erupted.

?One person who suffered a single gun shot wound, appears to be minor. That person?s going to be OK. Another person suffered a gunshot wound that appears to be life-threatening at this point,? said Sgt. Dan Janson.

Detectives don't know yet if it was just one person or more who are responsible, but believe the suspect or suspects sped off in a car.

A next door neighbor, Yvette Jackson, said she's heard of this type of situation before.

"Young people they take things and do drugs and feel like they get away with it, things happen. And these types of things happen,? said Jackson.

Jackson lives in the building right across the way from where the two men were shot.

?As a community we just have to be aware when things like this occur, because somebody else could have gotten hurt. That was in there. And we just have to talk to one another," said Jackson.

Police spent the day collecting a barrage of bullets scattered all over the complex, one was in a tree near the entrance, the other in the wall just below Jackson's apartment. Jackson says she just wants the violence to stop.

?We have to stick together to make things work. And that?s just the way it is,? said Jackson.

Police are currently reviewing surveillance tape of the apartment complex to see if they can find out who is responsible.

According to Jacksonville Fire Rescue, both victims were sent to Shands Hospital, one in serious condition and the other in stable condition.

Police do not have a description of the suspect yet. Stay tuned to Channel 4 for more information.
