Two Jacksonville Democrats filed identical bills Thursday that would lead to state attorneys and public defenders being elected in non-partisan races.
Sen. Audrey Gibson and Rep. Tracie Davis filed the bills (SB 366 and HB 231) for consideration during the 2017 legislative session, which starts March 7.

The bills, in part, would bar political parties from endorsing or assisting candidates for state attorney and public defender, similar to the already-existing prohibition on party activity in judicial races.
