Officials investigate officer-involved crash

JSO: Officer injured when woman ran red light

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating a crash in Northwest Jacksonville involving a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office cruiser Thursday evening.

The crash happened at the intersection of New Kings Road and Soutel Drive.

At 8:25 p.m. an officer was on standard patrol traveling northbound on New Kings Road. He had a green light to make a left turn on Soutel Drive when a white vehicle traveling eastbound on Soutel had a red light. That vehicle ran the red light and struck the officer's cruiser in the front, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officer Hasham Morgan was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.   

The woman driving the white vehicle did not suffer any injuries. Police said she is cooperating with the investigation.

Officials don't know if the officer or the woman were wearing seat belts.

Charges are still pending against the woman and the investigation is ongoing.

All lanes at New Kings Road and Soutel Drive were closed for a few hours.
