Palatka woman turns $20 into $1M in scratch-off game

PALATKA, Fla. – A 56-year-old Palatka woman has claimed a $1 million prize in a Florida Lottery scratch-off game.

Nancy Burke chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $745,000.

She won the prize playing the $5,000,000 Gold Rush Doubler Scratch-Off game.

Burke purchased her winning ticket from My Stop Food Mart at 238 U.S. 17 North in Palatka. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

The $20 game features six top prizes of $5 million, 30 prizes of $1 million, and more than $752 million in total cash prizes. The $20 game offers more than 16.8 million winning tickets, and overall odds of winning are one-in-2.99, lottery officials said.

Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery's portfolio of games, comprising approximately 65 percent of ticket sales and generating more than $734 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in fiscal year 2015-16, officials said.
