Leland Shoemake passed away from amoebic infection

ATLANTA, Ga. – After a 6-year-old boy died of an amoeba infection, his parents found a goodbye note he left for them in their home.

Tim and Amber Shoemake said they found the note from their son Leland (pictured right) when they came home to get clothes for him to be buried in. It was on the table in the living room.

The note reads: "Still with you. Thank you Mom and Dad."

Amber wrote about the note on the Prayers for Leland Facebook page. She said, "He was the life of every party. His smile could light up a city. He was the smartest, most caring, loving little boy there ever was."

Leland died from an amoebic infection on his brain on Friday. He was being treated at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

His funeral was held Monday.

Amber concluded her Facebook post by saying, "We have no idea when he wrote it but you can tell he was always a special child. We will love you forever Leland. Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!"
