Investigators said the 19-year-old driving was traveling at a high speed when he lost control of the car. Police say the vehicle traveled across the road, jumped the concrete curb, continued across the concrete sidewalk and struck a wooden telephone pole.

Police said neither occupant of the car was wearing a seat belt. They said there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Police said from the evidence at the scene, the distance the car traveled and the amount of damage from the impact with the pole, it appears speed was a factor in the crash.
