Pedestrian crossing Beach Blvd. hit, killed by SUV

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person is dead after being struck by an SUV at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Peach Road on Monday night.

Officials say the victim, a pedestrian, was trying to cross Beach Boulevard just before 7:30 p.m. when the Ford Explorer heading west hit the person.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to UF Health, but later died.

Police are investigating whether the driver had a red or green light. Investigators said they spoke to the driver and believe that drugs and alcohol were not a factor.

Officials say there are no charges against the driver of the SUV at this time.
