Pedestrian killed also hit 4 days earlier, family says

Woman, 60, killed Tuesday hit at same spot on 103rd Street on Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Family members and close friends told News4Jax that a loving mother escaped death once on a busy Jacksonville road only to be killed four days later by a passing car -- at the same spot.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 60-year-old Anne Simmons was hit by a minivan and killed Tuesday morning walking across 103rd Street, just east of Britton Lane around 7 a.m.

But News4Jax learned Simmons was also hit by a car in the same location last Friday.

State troopers spoke with Simmons' daughter, Katie, who said that Simmons was taken to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit over the weekend after Friday's accident.

Simmons was released from the hospital on Monday and was hit by another car on Tuesday -- but did not survive.

Simmons left behind her daughter and her husband, Frank.

Simmons' friend, Linda Yarbrough, said she was shocked when she and other friends heard about Simmons' death. She said Simmons (pictured at age 39 in a family photo) was just going to the store to buy sugar.

"She didn't deserve this, but I guess God has his own time. It's just tragic," Yarbrough said. "She'd give you the shirt off her back, she really would. I'm in bad medical (condition), and she'd help me clean, wash and do anything for you."

The family is asking for donations to be sent to New Hope Baptist to help pay for Simmons' funeral arrangements.
