Pelicans play Hawks in Jax for preseason NBA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Local NBA fans got a treat Friday night at Veteran's Memorial Arena.

That's where the New Orleans Pelicans are taking on the Atlanta Hawks on the hardwood.

The Pelicans have been featured in preseason games in Jacksonville the past three years while the Hawks last played an exhibition game in Duval County in 2009 against the Miami Heat.

Even though the city doesn't have its own NBA team plenty of people still turned out for the hardcourt action.

"I think it's pretty fair. It's better than a Jaguar game or something like that with more average attendance than something like that or than a Jacksonville Giants game or something," attendee Kyle Wilson said.

Both teams are expected to do well in the NBA season that begins at the end of the month.
