ST. JOHNS, Fla. -

A 22-year-old man died early Tuesday morning after his car hit a tree in northwest Julington Creek community.

St. Johns County deputies said Nicholas Scott Bornman was driving a Grand Marquis northbound on Flora Branch Road just before 1 a.m. when he lost control.

Bornman over-corrected and hit a tree.  Fire-rescue personnel said the driver was dead when they arrived.

Speed was listed as a factor in the crash, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

A dog was inside the car at the time, and was taken by Animal Control to be evaluated.
