Police: 1 dead after shooting in Palatka

PALATKA, Fla. – A 25-year-old Palatka man was shot and killed late Wednesday night, according to the Palatka Police Department.

The man, Tony Williams Jr., was found shot in the chest near the intersection of North 17th and Washington streets in Palatka. Williams was taken to Putnam Community Hospital and then airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he died shortly after 12:30 a.m., police said.

Witnesses told police that Williams was approached by several suspects and during the confrontation, one of the suspects shot Williams at least once.

Palatka police are investigating the shooting with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
