Police: Alcohol a factor in crash that left teen driver unconscious

GAINVESVILLE, Fla. – Police say alcohol was a factor in a crash that left a 16-year-old in the hospital and unconscious. Gainesville police say the teenage driver had no ID and was in the United States illegally from Mexico.

Officers say the teen was driving a Mazda sedan east on SW Archer Road when it left the roadway and hit a tree sometime Friday night or Saturday morning.

The driver, who has not been named, was taken to UF Health in Gainesville. Police say the driver did not have any type of identification or a driver's license.

Two lanes of Southwest Archer Road were blocked for several hours.
