Police: Armed robber hits Kangaroo gas station

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Officers with the Jacksonville Beach Police Department are on the hunt for a man who they said used a small handgun to rob the Kangaroo gas station on the 1400 block of Third Street North on Thursday.

Police said the robbery took place at 12:27 a.m. when a black male went into the store, pointed a small handgun at the clerk and demanded money.

The man took money from the clerk and took off in a white, four-door hatchback sedan headed north on Third Street North, police said.

Officials and witnesses described the man as small framed, about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with short hair,  and was between 30 and 40 years old.

Police said that at the time of the robbery, the man was wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans and a black military-style hat and was carrying a black or blue backpack.

Photos of the man were taken on a surveillance camera and police are asking anyone who can identify the him or has information about the robbery to call the Jacksonville Beach Police Department at 904-270-1661.

People with information can also contact Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS where information leading to an arrest can be left anonymously and be eligible for a reward.
