Police were called to the Creekwood Apartments Tuesday afternoon to check on the well-being of a woman at the complex.
Police said they began their investigation at the complex after receiving a phone call from the woman’s family who told them that a man answered the woman’s phone and demanded money from the family if they wanted to see the woman again.
Police arrested Timothy Summers Tuesday night for kidnapping for ransom, threats with intent to extort money, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Police said their investigation revealed that Summers took the victim’s phone, depriving her of using it. The victim’s friend called the phone number and Summers answered it. Police said Summers then said that if the victim’s grandmother and family wanted to see her again, they would need to give him a large sum of money.
Police said Summers then threatened to kill the female victim if the police were called. The friend of the victim believed the suspect was serious and that he had a gun, so they called the victim’s family and told them about the threat.
A family member then called the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and reported the situation. The victim was able to leave the apartment and make contact with police. A short time later, police were able to make contact with Summers, who then surrendered to police.
The victim’s apartment was searched and police found two guns inside the home.
The victim told police that the suspect held her in her apartment against her will and threatened to kill himself and her with a gun if she tried to leave the apartment.
