Man fatally shot inside flea market; no suspects

Authorities hope surveillance cameras captured suspects

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police were called to the Norwood Plaza Flea Market on Jacksonville's Northside late Friday afternoon after a man was shot to death inside a shoe store.

Police have identified the victim as Brandon Christopher Stubbs Scriber, 23.

Several people reported hearing gunshots inside the flea market at 5300 Norwood Avenue, across the street from a police substation, about 5:45 p.m.  One man said the victim went into his shoe store, and shortly after, several other men walked in and shot the man.

"In talking to witnesses, some people said they saw suspects, other people saw people running. We're talking to a bunch of them, (we'll) see what we have," said Homicide Sgt. Dan Janson.

Janson told Channel 4 they still haven't found a suspect. The Sheriff's Office is also hoping that surveillance cameras in the area captured the suspects.

"There is some cameras in there in various locations, so we've got tech support team in there taking look at those cameras, find any activity caught on those," said Sgt. Janson. "I'm not sure to what degree some of the cameras record or do not."

Reginald Daise, who works near the flea market, is hoping that the police presence in the area will be higher as the holiday season approaches.

"I feel we need more police presence. It gets kind of weird around here sometimes," he said. "We have issues now and then, but normally around the holidays is when we have an uptick in violence."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.  Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to an arrest.
